The Faculty of Management (FOM) hosted a sharing session titled “Cleaner Malaysia, Greener Future: Practices and Insights from KDEB Waste Management.” The session featured Puan Hajah Mahfuzah Muhamad Tarmidi, Assistant General Manager of Corporate Communication at KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), and was facilitated under the Environmental and Resource Economics course by Ms. Noor Shahaliza binti Othman in September 2025. Attended by students from various business and economics programmes, the talk aimed to connect classroom learning with real-world practices in environmental sustainability.

During her presentation, Puan Hajah Mahfuzah highlighted Malaysia’s challenges in solid waste management, including the daily generation of 38,000 tonnes of waste, limited landfill space, and the need for more sustainable solutions. She explained KDEBWM’s role in managing domestic waste across 12 municipalities in Selangor and introduced initiatives such as waste-to-energy plants, IoT fleet monitoring, recycling centres, and upcycling projects. Emphasising the circular economy approach, she encouraged collaboration among stakeholders to tackle low recycling rates and illegal dumping, reminding students that building a cleaner and greener Malaysia is a shared responsibility.
