A talk entitled “Finding Niche in Economics” was organised by the Faculty of Management (FOM) featuring Ms. Nur Akma Nazihah binti Shahnaz Akhtar, a Trainee Dealer at Affin Bank and a proud MMU Alumna from the Bachelor of Analytical Economics, Class of 2024. The session was facilitated by Ms. Noor Shahaliza Othman at the Cyberjaya campus on 12 September 2025.

The session aimed at exposing students to the diverse career opportunities within the field of economics. Ms. Nur Akma began by sharing her personal journey as an MMU graduate and how her academic background supported her transition into the professional world. She also provided practical steps for identifying and developing a niche in economics, emphasising the importance of continuously building knowledge and skills beyond the classroom.

A key highlight of her talk was the discussion on current local and global economic issues, where she explained how economics graduates can contribute to addressing challenges through analytical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. She also outlined the licences and professional certifications available for those aspiring to work in finance and economics-related industries, highlighting how such qualifications enhance employability and credibility in the job market.

Furthermore, Ms. Nur Akma stressed the importance of adaptability and resilience in today’s fast-changing economic landscape. She encouraged students to remain curious, to leverage their academic foundation as a springboard to explore different career pathways, and to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Drawing from her current role at Affin Bank, she provided real-world perspectives on how theoretical knowledge gained at university translates into practical applications in the banking sector.

The session was well-received by students, as it not only provided fresh industry insights but also inspired them to chart their own career paths with confidence. By connecting academic learning with professional practice, the talk reinforced the value of economics education in preparing graduates for a dynamic and competitive employment landscape.
