At the ACM SIGGRAPH KL Chapter Extra-Credit Awards 2025 competition, Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) students stood out once again with Sao Chyi winning the Gold Award for her short film ‘Take Me Places’ and the Virtual Reality (VR) team of Muhammad Faris Fiqran, Muhammad Faiz Khairuddin, and Kartika Asnul bringing home the Silver Award. The competition, held on 3 and 4 September in Johor Bahru, brought together some of the most promising young creators in the region.
Out of 20 finalists, an impressive eight projects were from MMU, underscoring the faculty’s wide-ranging innovation across Animation, Visual Effects, and Virtual Reality. Sao Chyi also walked away with RM2,000 and a trophy, while the VR team impressed judges with their groundbreaking project, “Layangan Warisan (A Gamified Virtual Reality Experience Preserving Malaysia’s Wau Heritage Powered by AI Speech-to-Speech NPC)” earning RM1,500 and a trophy.
Adding to this triumph, Muhammad Faris Fiqran further distinguished himself by winning the Best Presentation Award, a recognition that highlights not only his creative skills but also his ability to communicate ideas with clarity and professionalism. These achievements are a proud reflection of the dedication, perseverance, and creativity of MMU students, while also standing as a testament to the unwavering mentorship of FCM lecturers in nurturing and shaping the next generation of creative leaders.
