In conjunction with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, a group of students representing the Student Representative Council (SRC) and REX Cyberjaya campus participated in the Cok’Ohook Rewang Merdeka programme with the Mah Meri community in Kampung Org Asli Bukit Bangkong, Sepang on 9 August 2025.
The Mah Meri community is an indigenous ethnic group originally from the Selangor coastal areas of Sepang and Kuala Langat, where they have lived for over 500 years. This programme provided our students with a valuable opportunity to immerse themselves in the Mah Meri’s local culture, including its dances, arts, cuisine, and language. The programme was organised by Team Selangor, with participation from universities across the Sepang District.
The students also took part in gotong-royong activities, including tree planting, painting, and decorating the village with Malaysian flags, which marked the national month celebration. Overall, the students not only contributed to the festivities but also engaged in meaningful interactions with the Orang Asli community, fostering mutual respect and cultural understanding.
Well done!
