The Faculty of Management (FOM) conducted two environmental outreach programmes at Maplewood Academy, aimed at encouraging green habits among school students, recently. Held on 5 and 6 August, the back-to-back sessions involved students from Grades 8 and 9, with each session offering a different focus and experience.
The first session, held on 5 August, was conducted under the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) with the theme “Coexist with Mother Earth: Practice Green Habits for a Cleaner Planet.” A total of 36 students participated in the programme, which was facilitated by FOM academicians led by Professor Dr. Chong Chin Wei, along with Dr. Tim Tan Chi Hau, Ms. Noor Shahaliza Othman, and Ms. Fatin Zaida Zaidi. Guided by teacher-advisor Ms. Fifi Najwa, the students took part in interactive activities aimed at promoting everyday sustainable practices such as reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling. The session also encouraged students to reflect on their roles in protecting the environment through small but meaningful actions.
The following day, FOM returned to the school for another round of engagement, this time in collaboration with KDEB Waste Management Sdn. Bhd. Around 38 students took part in the workshop, which focused on the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). Students learned how to differentiate between waste and recyclables, took part in hands-on sorting activities, and enjoyed a fun Kahoot quiz that ended with 12 winners. The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Chong and Dr. Tim, together with Alvis Chan Man Seong and five KDEB representatives, who added valuable industry insights to the session.
These two programmes reflect the faculty’s ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness among the younger generation while strengthening ties with the community. Both sessions also underline the university’s continued commitment to promoting sustainability through education and collaboration.
