Prof. Ts. Dr. Ting Choo Yee and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Ng Kok Why from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) represented MMU at the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 and Huawei Cloud AI Ecosystem Summit APAC, held on 12–13 August 2025 at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur. The summit, organised by Huawei Malaysia, gathered government leaders, industry experts, and academics to discuss the future of AI development and ecosystem building across ASEAN.
Prof. Ting shared his expertise through a talk titled “Empowering the Next Generation of AI Talent through University-Huawei Collaboration”, highlighting the importance of strong partnerships between academia and industry to nurture skilled AI professionals. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng joined the official launch of the Huawei Malaysia AI Talent Programme as one of the academic representatives. This initiative seeks to accelerate AI talent development through collaboration with universities and higher education institutions.
The event also featured the presence of prominent figures such as YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital Malaysia; Mr. Shamsul Izhan Abdul Majid, Head of the National AI Office; Mr. Simon Sun, CEO of Huawei Malaysia; Mr. Andy Wei, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Malaysia; and Ms. Li Yin, CTO of Huawei Cloud Enterprise Intelligence. With participation from institutions, researchers, and experts across the region, the summit underscored the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening AI innovation and talent development. MMU takes pride in the contributions of its academics, reflecting the university’s active role in advancing digital transformation through education, research, and partnerships.
