Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President MMU was invited to share his insights at the Times Higher Education (THE) Digital Universities Asia 2025 conference held in Hong Kong, China. Held from 8 until 10 July, the conference brought together over 350 leaders from higher education, industry, and policy to examine the profound social impact of digital transformation on universities across the region. It explored how digital advancements can strengthen communities and prepare students for a future shaped by technology.
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham participated in an expert panel session titled Digital Upskilling for the Workforce: Closing the Skills Gap in the Global South. The discussion addressed the urgent need to upskill and reskill the workforce, with a focus on developing digital competencies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and automation. He also shared MMU’s Research-led, Industry-driven University (RIU) initiative, which aims to build strong synergies with industry to ensure graduates are equipped with relevant skills and competencies demanded by the digital economy.
To embrace this transformation, MMU has made significant strides, including the establishment of the Faculty of AI and Engineering (FAIE) and the introduction of a suite of industry-delivered AI-focused programmes. These efforts underscore MMU’s leadership and commitment to advancing AI and digital technologies, aligning closely with the themes of the Digital Universities Asia 2025 conference.
