On 4 June 2025, a total of 34 primary school students from Melaka and Selangor participated in a vibrant and inspiring workshop titled “A Fun Canva Workshop for Young Creators.” Organized by Ms. Siow Yung Ern and her dedicated team from the Faculty of Business, the workshop aimed to empower young students with digital design skills using the Canva platform, an accessible and versatile tool for creative expression.
The workshop was skillfully facilitated by Dr. Subhacini Subramaniam and Ms. Usha Vellappan, who provided hands-on guidance and support throughout the sessions. With a structured and engaging approach, the trainers introduced participants to the fundamentals of digital design, beginning with a step-by-step tutorial on creating personalized event cards. Students eagerly explored Canva’s rich features, experimenting with colors, fonts, and animations while learning how to bring their ideas to life.
In the next segment, participants were grouped into teams and tasked with designing posters for a fictional school event. This activity not only enhanced their understanding of effective poster design but also encouraged collaboration, creativity, and communication among peers. The enthusiasm and teamwork displayed by the students were truly commendable and a testament to their potential as budding designers.
One of the most meaningful sessions of the day involved the creation of vision boards, where each participant reflected on their personal dreams and aspirations. These visions were then creatively visualized using Canva, resulting in beautifully crafted artwork that was later printed and presented to each participant as a keepsake of their journey.
The workshop concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony, featuring a showcase of the students’ artwork and a celebration of their efforts and creativity. The experience not only provided participants with practical digital skills but also inspired confidence and self-expression through art and design.
This initiative reflects the Faculty of Business’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and youth empowerment, and it successfully provided a memorable learning experience for all involved. The knowledge and skills gained during the workshop will undoubtedly serve as a valuable foundation for these young creators in their educational journeys ahead.
