We are pleased to share the recent achievement of our students from the Faculty of Law (FOL), as Team 1010, comprising Tan Yu Jian and Ram Varma Sivanantham, emerged as the champion of the Taylor’s Intervarsity Mooting Competition 2025, held at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus from 14 to 15 June 2025.
MMU was represented by two other teams as well: Team 1008 (Lai Xin Yue and Ng Kai Qing) and Team 1009 (Wan Abdul Azim Wan Faizal and Raneysha a/p Kuldeep Kumar), who competed alongside other teams from various universities across Malaysia in a rigorous showcase of legal reasoning, advocacy, and courtroom strategy.
From the start, Team 1010 showed strong legal knowledge and speaking skills. They competed against Taylor’s University and UniSZA in the general rounds and finished 1st overall. In the knockout rounds, they beat UniSZA in the quarter-finals, MMU’s Team 1009 in the semi-finals, and gave a strong performance against Universiti Malaya (UM) in the Grand Final.
The Final Bench comprised Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan, Former Federal Court Judge and Director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC); Datuk N. Sivananthan, Founding Partner of Sivananthan Advocates & Solicitors; and Datuk Dr. Baljit Singh Sidhu, Managing Partner of Shukor Baljit & Partners.
Team 1009 also performed well, making it to the semi-finals. They competed against UKM and MMU in the general rounds, then defeated UiTM in the quarter-finals before facing MMU’s Team 1010 in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Team 1008 put in a commendable effort against Taylor’s University and MMU but ended their journey in the general rounds.
With the guidance of FOL lecturers Mr. Nor Hisham Nor Hashim and Mr. Mohd Azizie Abdul Aziz, this victory shows MMU’s growing strength in legal education and mooting. The team’s win proves they can think clearly under pressure, speak confidently, and use their legal knowledge effectively.
Congratulations!
