MMU Permata Dunia Receives National Youth Icon Award 2025

Let us extend our heartiest congratulations to our Permata Dunia, Mr. Thashidaran Tharmar, who has been crowned the National Youth Icon 2025 — Malaysia’s most prestigious youth award recognising outstanding leadership, community service, and contributions to nation-building. The award was presented by YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, during the National Youth Day celebration held at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, on 15 June 2025.

A graduate of the Faculty of Management (Class of 2019), Thashidaran currently serves as Managing Director at Global One Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd. Known for his selfless spirit and strong community values, he has consistently championed causes that uplift young people and promote civic engagement. Notably, he was first named the Selangor State Champion before advancing to win the award at the national level.

Thashidaran is a passionate youth leader focused on empowerment, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. Over the past 11 years, he has participated in volunteer missions across eight countries — including Laos, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Brunei, Vietnam, and India — contributing to education and community development efforts.

His journey into volunteerism began at MMU through the Indian Cultural Society. One of his earliest initiatives was a transition camp for Standard Six students at a Tamil school in Dengkil, where he helped organise team building and leadership activities. This experience sparked his deep commitment to community service.

In 2018, he led a team on a two-week mission in Laos, carrying out 37 projects including teaching English, building bus stops, and repairing school facilities. Two years later, he spent over two months in Nepal to help construct a water pipeline that continues to supply clean water to around 300 families.
