Let us congratulate the Chinese Language Society (CLS) Lion Dance team for securing second place and walking away with a cash prize of RM2,000 at the OE MMU Cup Lion Dance Championship on 25 May 2025. The championship was sponsored by OE EduGroup, where 17 elite dance teams from across Malaysia gathered for a full day of cultural celebration, showcasing skill, creativity, and tradition.
Each team presented their own original storyline along with their performances, combining traditional lion dance techniques with imaginative narratives. The routines ranged from heroic tales of ancient warriors to lively “Drunken Lion” acts, with lions in various colors showcasing distinct styles and personalities. The performances kept the audience engaged with alternating moments of thunderous applause and quiet admiration.
Young performers from several primary school teams also took to the stage, their powerful and synchronized movements reflecting a strong foundation and genuine passion for preserving this cultural heritage. The event highlighted the importance of passing down traditional arts to the younger generation.
The opening ceremony featured several notable community leaders and cultural advisors, including Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Ng Kok Wai, Club Advisor, together with Ms. Wong Siew Ki (State Assemblyperson for Seri Kembangan), Mr. Tey Boon Kiat, Subang Jaya City Councillor, Mr. Soh Tiong Hai, Permanent Advisor of the Serdang Zhong Yuan Festival Association, and Mr. Lim See Chen, also from the Serdang Zhong Yuan Festival Association.
A panel of 16 professional judges, led by renowned lion dance instructor Mr. Hooi Kok Hong, ensured fair and thorough evaluation throughout the competition. The event concluded with the prize-giving ceremony officiated by Dato Wira Calvin Khiu, Chairman of OE EduGroup, Ms. Michelle Ng, Millionaire Mentor Table 002, and Dr. Ng Kok Wai.
The OE MMU Cup Lion Dance Championship was more than just a contest; it was a vibrant cultural celebration that showcased the beauty and diversity of Malaysia’s traditional arts. With strong participation from young talents and community support, lion dance continues to thrive and inspire across the nation, promising to leap and shine for generations to come.
