MMU through its Sustainability Development Committee, hosted two impactful international webinars on 23 and 24 June 2025. These webinars, which brought together experts, educators, students, and researchers from across the region, addressed pressing global challenges in sustainable agriculture and inclusive education, both essential pillars of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The first webinar, titled “Smart Farming, Green Living: Innovations Shaping the Future of Agriculture”, focused on advancing food security, climate resilience, and ethical farming. Dr. Billy Tang Chee Seng, Founder and CEO of PWD Smart FarmAbility, delivered an inspiring presentation on regenerative and inclusive agriculture, introducing models such as the HOPE Box Terrarium™ and Soil-U-tion Aquaponics Satellite Farm™. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Siti Azizah from Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, highlighted the socioeconomic value of sustainable Alabio duck farming in South Kalimantan. Both speakers underscored the power of innovation and local wisdom in addressing environmental and food security concerns.
The second webinar, “Different Minds, Equal Chances: Inclusive Approach to Learning”, spotlighted equitable education and support for learners with diverse needs. Dr. Chu Shi Wei from the University of Nottingham Malaysia shared her research on Universal Design for Learning and the importance of inclusive practices in higher education. Complementing this, Dr. Dinie Ratri Desiningrum from Diponegoro University, Indonesia, discussed the integration of mental health strategies such as mindfulness and optimism to support students, especially those with learning disabilities. Both sessions encouraged a lively exchange of ideas and demonstrated how inclusive practices can enhance learning outcomes and well-being.
Together, these webinars reinforced MMU’s steadfast commitment to global sustainability and social equity. Aligning with multiple SDGs—such as SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships), the events exemplify the university’s dedication to fostering collaborative, inclusive, and innovative solutions for a better world. By engaging international partners and championing inclusive dialogues, MMU continues to shape thought leadership across borders for a more sustainable and equitable future.
