Let us extend our heartfelt congratulations to Madam Mastura Abdul Rahman, Assistant Professor from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM), for being selected as one of the 30 distinguished artists featured in a special exhibition at the National Art Gallery Kuala Lumpur.

Her mixed-media painting titled Interior #29, created in 1987 and measuring 112cm by 115.5cm, has been part of the National Art Gallery’s permanent collection since 1988. This remarkable piece has now taken on a new life as the introductory element of the gallery’s cutting-edge exhibition, Pameran Imersif: Merungkai Bingkai / Immersive Exhibition: Into The Frameless.

The painting has been transformed into a physical on-site installation inspired by the original work. While not digitally animated, the installation is adorned with digital prints derived from Interior #29’s signature floral motifs. This creative interpretation symbolises the beginning of a journey into deeper digitalisation and new artistic frontiers.

Visitors to the exhibition are first invited to engage in this mini-installation of Interior #29 before stepping into the immersive digital showcase, which features Artificial Intelligence photography and digitally enhanced video presentations of artworks from the National Art Gallery’s collection.

This innovative exhibition marks a significant milestone in helping Malaysians explore and appreciate the vast potential of our digital future. Notably, six of Madam Mastura’s artworks are part of the National Art Gallery’s esteemed collection, an outstanding testament to her contribution to Malaysia’s creative heritage.

The MMU community is highly encouraged to visit the exhibition, which runs until April 2027, and celebrate this exceptional achievement while gaining insights into the future of digital expression in the arts.

Congratulations to Madam Mastura on this national recognition!
