On 11 June 2025, 25 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) took part in an industrial visit to CSC Steel Sdn. Bhd. in Ayer Keroh, Melaka. Organised by the Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC), the visit aimed at exposing students to real-world engineering environments and industrial practices. The session began with a briefing on the company’s background and business culture, providing context for the operations observed during the visit.
Three engineers from CSC Steel – Mr Lim Yong Heck, Mr Tan Tuan Xiang, and Mr Alvin Wong Cherk Ann – conducted a technical sharing session and safety briefing in preparation for the plant tour. The engineers explained the manufacturing processes for hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel, hot-dipped galvanized steel, and pre-painted galvanized steel. Students were also introduced to the 2RCM (Reversing Cold Mill) hydraulic power unit system, which includes components such as the Auxiliary Hydraulic Power Unit, Roll Bending Hydraulic Power Unit, Screw Down Hydraulic Power Unit, and Roll Charger Hydraulic Power Unit.
The plant tour allowed students to observe key machinery in action, including the 2RCM machine, Temper Mill, and Annealing Furnace. They witnessed how hot rolled coils are transformed into various steel products and gained a clearer understanding of the production workflow. The visit provided students with valuable exposure to industrial work culture and highlighted the critical role of personal protective equipment (PPE) in ensuring safety within the heavy industry environment.
