On 18 June 2025, the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM) brought together academics, practitioners, and postgraduate students for the 4th edition of its flagship RE-IGNITE event series. Centred around the theme “Design for Intelligence, Arts, and Sustainable Futures,” the Creative Forum served as a key platform for intellectual discourse and interdisciplinary exchange, aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
The event series was officially launched by Puan Nor Adni Ismail, Vice President of Finance & Business Ventures, who also officiated the opening of ReCollab, FCM’s newly established Research and Collaboration Lab. Specifically designed for postgraduate use, ReCollab is envisioned as a vibrant hub for reflective inquiry, collaboration, and innovation — incorporating both research spaces and wellness areas to support creativity and wellbeing.
In her speech, Puan Nor Adni praised the faculty’s commitment to embedding sustainability in design, highlighting the important role of creative disciplines in shaping public opinion, promoting social causes, and encouraging behavioural change. She commended the student-led efforts in organising the forum, particularly the leadership shown by Team Alpha, spearheaded by Mr. Nisshan Rao from the Project Management class.
Ms. Nadia Mahmud, Dean of FCM opened the forum with words of appreciation for her team, especially Ts. Dr. Vimala Perumal, Deputy Dean of Postgraduate and Collaboration, for her role in curating the RE-IGNITE series. The forum featured insightful presentations from Mr. Samuel Khoo Hsien Ming, a national commissioner from the Scouts Association of Malaysia and a member of the Asia Pacific Regional Diversity and Inclusion Sub-Committee; Ts. Dr. Cheng Kin Meng, assistant professor from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman; and Dr. Karolina Paterek, senior lecturer at FCM. The session was moderated by Ts. Dr. Vimala.
The RE-IGNITE programme encompasses three key components: the Postgraduate Open Colloquium, the MCM Open Studio, and the Creative Forum — each designed to foster critical dialogue, encourage research, and enhance the postgraduate learning experience. Contributions from faculty members including Prof. Ts. Dr. Koo Ah Choo, Prof. Ts. Dr. Wong Chee Onn, Dr. Roopesh Sitharan, Ts. Muhammad Tamim Faruq, Muhammad Syahmi Abd Aziz, Puan Noralizah Abd Ali, and Puan Nor Azima Amir Norhalim were instrumental to the programme’s success.
The RE-IGNITE series continues to strengthen FCM’s mission of nurturing future-ready creatives who are not only skilled in their craft but also mindful of their social and environmental impact. Click here to watch the Creative Forum of the RE-IGNITE series.
