The Google Developer Groups (GDG) Malaysia community recently advanced its global mission to empower developers with artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning technologies through a joint effort by GDGoC Multimedia University (MMU), GDGoC University Putra Malaysia (UPM), and GDGoC International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
On 24 May 2025, the three universities co-organised an event of “Build with AI UPM” at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM), UPM. This event attracted over 150 attendees from the three universities and the other institutions. The opening ceremony were attended by the AP Ts. Dr. Ng Kok Why, deputy dean from FCI MMU; AP Dr. Thinagaran A/L Perumal, head of department and Dr. Siti Nurulain Binti Mohd Rum, senior lecturer, both from FSKTM UPM.
The Road to Build with AI (RTBwAI) is an online series. The event laid a strong foundation by equipping students with hands-on experience using Google’s AI tools. This phase unifies participants from different universities under a common learning journey.
The co-organisers conveyed their special thanks to the distinguished industry experts in AI and Machine Learning who led the session talks: Razeen Iqbal Roslan, Guan Wang, Ananda Dwi Rahmawati, Akshata Mohanty, and Leong Lai Fong from the RTBwAI series, and Dr. Poo Kuan Hoong, Fares Hasan Alfadhli, Wei Chung Low, and Punsiri Boonyakiat at the main event. Their deep expertise and insights played a key role in inspiring and uniting the AI community.
The event fostered a stronger partnership between the three universities. This connection opened new avenues for interfaculty cooperation, resource sharing, and future joint initiatives in AI education and development. The initiative not only accelerated AI skills development but also reinforced the collaborative network between GDGoC chapters and university faculties, strengthening Malaysia’s AI ecosystem.
