The Siti Hasmah Digital Library (SHDL), Melaka campus, had the honour of hosting the Presentation Session on the Review of University Library Standards, bringing together academic library leaders from across the nation on 29 April 2025.
Organised in collaboration with the Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia (PPM) and the Academic Library Standards Committee (JKPA), the session welcomed over 21 Chief Librarians and library representatives from both public and private institutions of higher learning (IPTA and IPTS), as well as key committee members and facilitators who are instrumental in shaping the future of academic library services in Malaysia.
This session marked a significant continuation of the efforts initiated during an earlier workshop held at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in February 2025. It forms part of a nationwide initiative to revisit, refine, and elevate the standards governing university libraries, ensuring they remain responsive to the evolving needs of academia.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Kamal Sujak, MMU’s Chief Librarian, highlighted the importance of the session not merely as a document review exercise, but as a strategic reflection point—an opportunity to assess the current needs, challenges, and future aspirations of academic libraries in Malaysia.
Among the distinguished attendees were PPM President Dr. Ghazali Mohd Fadzil, facilitators Dr. Nor Edzan Nasir and Ms. Rohaya Umar, JKPA Chairperson Pn. Mazmin Mat Akhir, as well as committee and secretariat members from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), MMU, and other participating institutions.
This gathering reflects the shared commitment of Malaysia’s academic library community to foster excellence, collaboration, and innovation in library services for the benefit of the nation’s higher education landscape.
