On 17 May 2025, the King Sejong Institute (KSI) MMU Melaka successfully organised its 5th Korean Speech Contest, where 17 finalists were selected after a competitive preliminary round, to showcase their linguistic skills.

The contest provided a platform for participants to deliver original Korean speeches before a panel of esteemed judges, encouraging both language proficiency and cultural confidence. The topics of the 5th Korean Speech Contest were “My Favorite Korean Expression and Why” and “The Most Memorable Class/Lesson in KSI.” As a result, Leanne Wee Xi emerged as the first-place winner, while Cheong Yeng Yeng and Yvonne E. Chia Ling secured second and third places, respectively.

Leanne’s speech script and video will be submitted to the KSI Foundation in South Korea for further evaluation. If selected, she will represent Malaysia in the international final round, competing with global finalists from other KSI branches. Her participation in the final round will be fully supported by the KSI Foundation.

Overall, the contest not only promoted the Korean language and culture but also provided valuable global exposure and encouraged intercultural engagement among young Malaysian learners.
