As part of the university’s ongoing Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), a financial literacy outreach titled “Financial Health Check-Up and Scam Awareness Workshop” was successfully conducted at Pusat Komuniti Desa Paya Ikan on 21 March 2025.
The session was attended by more than 80 participants from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), who gained valuable insights on how to strengthen their financial literacy, particularly for those living in rural areas. The programme not only provided practical tools to evaluate financial health and identify potential risks but also raised awareness about the growing threat of financial scams and how to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent activities.
Participants also learned the fundamentals of budgeting, including how to prepare a simple yet effective budget. In addition, they were introduced to various types of financial scams, ranging from online fraud to investment schemes and received practical advice on recognising warning signs and protecting themselves and their loved ones.
This impactful community engagement was led by dedicated MMU academics from the Faculty of Business (FOB), including Ms. Siti Zarifah binti Amir, Dr. Siti Zakiah binti Melatu Samsi, Dr. Tariqul Islam, Dr. Afandi bin Yusof, and Ms. Kausar Yaakup. The team represented two key research centres: the Centre for Accounting, Finance and Economics (CAFE) and the Centre for Management and Marketing Innovation (CMMI), operating under the COE for Sustainability and Governance as well as COE for Business Innovation and Communication.
By equipping individuals with the necessary tools and awareness to make informed financial decisions, this KTP project marks a meaningful step forward in fostering sustainable community well-being. Well done!
