The Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) conducted a two-day Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) workshop titled “The Art of Film Language: The Impact of Cinematography on Student Comprehension of Video” at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seberang Jaya, Pulau Pinang, from 14 to 15 May 2025. The initiative brought together 30 students, immersing them in the world of visual storytelling and filmmaking fundamentals.
The workshop, led by Ghazi Alqudcy, Furqaan Mohamad, Dr. Tan Yun Yi, Ts. Anwar Suhaimi, and Dean Ts. Shahfeeq Jibin, introduced students to the basics of cinematography and storytelling. They explored how camera angles influence mood and meaning. Students were then tasked with creating short videos using these techniques and received peer feedback on their work during the first day.
The second day focused on storytelling, where students learned about character development and the three-act structure. They brainstormed and shared story ideas, concluding the day with a reflection session and receiving their final video homework brief—an assignment designed to encourage them to apply all they had learned.
This workshop not only deepened the students’ understanding of film language but also planted seeds of confidence, curiosity, and self-expression. FCA remains committed to engaging and empowering young minds through the arts and hopes to see these future storytellers grow into thoughtful creators who will shape the narratives of tomorrow.
