The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE) kick-started the 2025 Knowledge Transfer Program with a workshop on Photovoltaic Energy and Net Zero Carbon Initiatives to a group of 100 students and 10 teachers from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pusat Bandar Puchong 1 on 21 April 2025.

The KTP initiative was led by Dr. Teh Chin Hui, Ir. Dr. Siva Priya Thiagarajah, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr Gobbi Ramasamy, Dr Ngu Eng Eng and Ir. Dr. Siow Chun Lim.  They were further assisted by MMU Smart Technology (MUST) facilitators Muhammad Izzat bin Muhammad Nazarudin (BEng Computer), Maanic Hamarays Marimuthu (BEng Electrical), Chong Jean Nee (Foundation- Engineering), Yousouf Ahmed Samy Abdelaziz (Foundation- Engineering), Lim Wann Sheng (MEng Telecommunications), Chia Yu Thong (BEng Telecommunications) , Mohammad Ammar Elsaid Babiker (BEng Electrical), Md Rasel Khandaker (MSc. EBM),  Altyeb Mubarak Alhag Abdalmahmoud(BEng Electrical) and Ahmed Hyder Abbas(BEng Electrical).

The KTP’s objective was to create awareness about photovoltaic technology and net zero carbon initiatives. In the theory workshop, Dr Teh explained how to calculate the power supply of a solar panel, factors that affect solar charging, the dangers of partial shading and also net zero initiatives. Afterwards, a hands-on workshop was conducted where participants calculated the photovoltaic cells voltage and conducted an experiment to measure the current generated by a solar panel that was connected to the load.

The MUST facilitators were hugely popular as students felt comfortable doing the experiment with peer-aged trainers.  To generate interest in engineering as a career, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Gobbi shared how electricity is the fundamental power to all upcoming technology such as Electric Vehicles and Artificial Intelligence servers. He highlighted how a career in electrical engineering and energy managers is future proof and will be in high demand in the very near future, as the world moves towards digitization and net zero policies. The workshop was concluded with a briefing on a school level “Net Zero Initiative” poster competition briefing. All workshop participants were invited to participate, and the winners will be announced during the school assembly by June 2025.

Well done!
