The Faculty of Computing and Informatics hosted a virtual visit with Professor Dr. Frans Coenen, the External Examiner for the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons.) with Specialisation in Data Science on 14 June until 16 June 2023.  The purpose of the virtual visit is for an assessment of the Data Science academic curriculum offered by the faculty.  Such assessment is important for gauging the standards of the Data Science programme so as to be at par with international practices.  

Throughout the three days, the External Examiner had assessed the programme outcomes and the Quality Management Systems (QMS).  He also had dialogue sessions with the academic staff and students and he was briefed on the educational resources at the faculty.  The Dean of the faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Junaidi Abdullah gave a welcoming remark and a brief introduction about the faculty on day 1.  Also present during the sessions were the faculty Deputy Deans, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim Tek Yong (Academic), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chua Fang Fang (Research), and Dr. Ng Kok Why (Students and Alumni).  The visit was coordinated by the Data Science specialisation coordinator, Dr Wan Noorshahida Mohd Isa.

Professor Dr. Frans Coenen is a professor at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.  This will be his second assessment visit of the programme.  His first assessment visit at MMU was on 15-16 January 2020.  The faculty was appreciative to have him as the External Examiner for the Data Science specialisation. His inputs on the Data Science programme are highly valued for further improving the programme.
