On 26th September 2022, a research dissemination webinar titled “Canada IDRC and Carleton University funded: Designing Mobile Services for Ageing Women in Malaysia” was held virtually by the researchers from Multimedia University (MMU), in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Intel Corporation. 

The main highlight of this webinar was to share the telecommunication expenditure, mobile usage experiences and behavioural patterns among the female elderly in Malaysia. This webinar also aimed to voice out the gender and age perspectives for better policies and development of technology and digital service plans, which were particularly useful to the policymakers and telco industry players.

This research project is supported by the International Development Research Centre Grant (IDRC, Canada) and Carleton University under Gendered Design for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) in Low-Middle-Income-Countries. To know more about the research programme, read it here

Altogether, there were twenty research projects awarded grants across the global south from Africa, Asia and Latin America. This current project is one of the three projects from the Asia region which started in October 2020 . The project is led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Koo Ah Choo for the 2nd year and the first year of the project was led by Ts. Dr Wong Chui Yin before she joined the industry in October 2021.
