Dr. Tan Ching Seong, a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) was honoured with the Star Golden Hearts Award (SGHA) 2019 in Petaling Jaya recently. Dr Tan, who is also founder of iCycle Malaysia, received the award during the ceremony organised by The Star Media Group and The Star Foundation in honouring unsung Malaysian heroes.

Dr. Tan developed a reward-based collection system to encourage the villagers to recycle which is called as iCycle. The system uses apps, Phinonics and barcodes to keep track of any discarded recyclables. There are 500 iCycle bins around Malaysia and 20 bins in China. With this invention, Dr. Tan believes that iCycle data and recycling system can help our nation to move towards a more sustainable future.

Congratulations, Dr Tan!
