A total of 118 students from the Faculty of Management (FOM) attended a sharing session by the Institute of Internal Auditor (IIA) Malaysia in Cyberjaya. Ms. Geetha Kanny, the Head of Commercial from the IIA, elaborated to the students on the professional qualification in internal auditing – the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), which is highly recognised globally. Since the exam is computer-based (online), it is practically available throughout the year. As emphasised by Ms Geetha, having this qualification could open more doors of opportunity for those who are keen to develop their career pathway in the internal auditing field.

The sharing session was continued with Mr. Wong Ket Keong, the Head of Internal Audit from Paramount Corporation Berhad. He is a Certified Internal Auditor, a Fellow Member of ACCA (UK) and a Chartered Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He pointed out that being an internal auditor requires a person who has an inquisitive mind and passionate about learning about business operations. Interestingly, internal auditors hold a very unique position where they are given the ‘green light’ to inquire any activities or expenditures approved by the top management, which they find may not be aligned with the organisations’ vision or mission.
