MMU Students to Represent Malaysia at the 15th IHL Moot Competition (Regional Rounds) in Hong Kong

Two MMU students, Veronica Soon and Bong Huei Thong emerged champions at the 15th National Rounds International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Competition that took place from 17 to 18 November 2018. The competition was held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Bong Huei Thong also bagged the Best Mooter for displaying outstanding oratory skills at the competition.

Since 2004, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Kuala Lumpur has partnered with local universities to organise the IHL Moot Competition where students must argue for the prosecution and the defence of a fictional war criminal charged before the International Criminal Court (ICC). Veronica Soon and Bong Huei Thong will be representing Malaysia in the regional rounds in Hong Kong early next year.

The students were trained by FOL alumnus, Mr. Jonathan Goh Han Liang and FOL lecturers namely Ms Shantini a/p Sukumaran, Mr Maran a/l Nandan and Ms Priscilla Shasha Devi a/p Seyapalan. Other FOL alumni, Mr Edwin Lim, Ms Tee Vun Xin, Mr Pravind Suppiah and Ms Leong Mendy also showed their support in assisting with the training and preparations.
