Multimedia University | FOB Students Gain Useful Insight from Industrial Talk and Visit

In order to impart a strong knowledge on employment laws and industrial relations among Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Human Resource Management (HRM) students, Faculty of Business (FOB) organised an industrial talk for the final year students on “Industrial Relations Practices at Infineon Technology” at MMU Melaka campus last month. The talk was delivered by Ms. Cho Lye Lin, Head of Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP), Infineon Technology, Melaka.

The students were exposed to the practical knowledge of Industrial Relations which included the role of trade unions, grievance procedure, misconduct and domestic inquiry. The students and the lecturer, Dr. Jaya Ganesan had a friendly discussion with the speaker on the recent minimum wage policy as announced by the Prime Minister’s Department.

Other than the talk, a group of 14 FOB students visited the Industrial Court in Kuala Lumpur. The Industrial Court plays a major role in maintaining industrial harmony through the process of arbitration. This visit served as a platform for students to explore the role of Industrial Court in the Malaysian Industrial Relations System. During the visit, Mr. Raja Khairul Azahar Raja Ahmad, Asst. Registrar of the Industrial Court briefed the students on the structure and jurisdiction of the industrial court.

Tuan Gulam Muhiaddeen Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the Industrial Court No.6, Kuala Lumpur had a fruitful discussion with the students on the Industrial Relations Act, issues faced by the Industrial Court, misconduct and unfair dismissals. The Chairman also emphasised on the role of Human Resource/International Relation Managers in maintaining harmony at work place. The students and lecturer Dr. Jaya Ganesan were also given the opportunity to witness the hearing process in the Industrial Court 5 and 12.
