

Students from Sekolah Menengah Al-Amin Bestari d’Merlimau (SMIAABM) gained hands-on experience in drone technology and Industry 4.0 (IR4.0) skills through a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) organised by MMU.
Led by the Centre for Advanced Analytics (CAA) under the Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence (CoE-AI), the Applied Educational Drone Technology for IR4.0 Skills Development in Secondary Schools programme was conducted across four sessions on 27 June, 11 July, 18 July and 1 August 2026. The first and final sessions were held at MMU, while the other two sessions took place at SMIAABM.
SMIAABM is the second school to benefit from the KTP, after Sekolah Menengah Agama i-Musleh (SMAiM). The programme introduced students to educational drone technology while developing their understanding of programming, flight control, problem-solving and computational thinking through a series of practical activities.
Students progressed through four modules covering Drone Fundamentals, Flight and Drone Control, DroneBlocks Programming and the Drone Challenge. Using programmable drones, they were able to see how coding translates into real-world movement and control, providing a practical way to apply the concepts they had learned.
The programme concluded with a drone challenge at MMU, where students worked in teams to complete two challenge maps using their flight control and programming skills. Beyond technical knowledge, the activity required students to communicate, work together, think creatively and solve problems within the given tasks. The programme was delivered by a team of academics and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), led by Ts. Dr. Nor Hidayati Abdul Aziz.
MMU continues to share its expertise in technology and engineering beyond the university, giving school students opportunities to experience STEM learning in a practical and engaging setting while strengthening university–school collaboration through knowledge transfer.
