The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), successfully organised the Alumni Industrial Forum 2026 in conjunction with Infineon Week 2026 in June 2026. The forum, themed “How AI and Engineering Are Shaping a Sustainable Semiconductor Industry”, brought together students, academics and industry practitioners to explore how emerging technologies are transforming the semiconductor landscape, with particular emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability in driving future growth.
The session featured four Multimedia University (MMU) alumni from Infineon Technologies Melaka: Mr. Tang Chee Chiang, Senior Director of Information Technology; Mr. Ronald Steven Dass, Director of Unit Process Engineering; Mr. Ong Kun Xiong, Senior Manager of Test Product Engineering; and Mr. Neo Shim Thai, Senior Engineer. Moderated by Dr. Sun Cha Chee, Senior Lecturer from FET, the forum offered participants valuable insights into current industry practices and the evolving demands of the semiconductor sector. Through the sharing of their professional experiences, the speakers highlighted how AI-driven solutions and decarbonisation initiatives are increasingly shaping decision-making and operational excellence while supporting environmental responsibility.
The two-hour discussion also underscored the importance of collaboration between engineering and information technology disciplines in addressing complex industrial challenges. Drawing from their own career journeys, the alumni encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, remain adaptable to change, and develop a growth mindset to stay relevant in an increasingly dynamic technological environment. Their experiences provided students with a clearer understanding of the opportunities and expectations within the semiconductor industry.
The forum concluded with a token of appreciation presented by Associate Professor Dr. Liew Kia Wai, Deputy Dean of Student Experience and Alumni, FET, in recognition of the alumni speakers’ valuable contributions. Participants later had the opportunity to engage with the speakers during a networking session, fostering meaningful connections and strengthening the ties between MMU and its alumni in the industry.
