Let us congratulate Ms. Ezzah Mahmud, a lecturer from the Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA), on winning First Prize in the English Non-Fiction Category at the 16th Popular–The Star Readers’ Choice Awards (RCA) 2026, held recently at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) in conjunction with the 20th BookFest @ Malaysia.

Her winning book, When Worries Turns to Hope, struck a deep chord with readers across the country. Reflecting on the recognition, Ezzah dedicated the award to caregivers everywhere, drawing attention to an often-overlooked concern at the heart of her book: who takes care of those who are constantly caring for others.

This year’s English Non-Fiction category featured a strong and competitive lineup of finalists, including Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (Rethinking Ourselves), C.P. Bok (Under the Malaccan Sun), Iffah Nizar (For The Heart That’s Still Hurting, 2nd Place), Ayesha Syahira (The Beauty of Promised Rizq, 3rd Place), and Steven Sim Chee Keong (Heart of Service). Emerging as the winner among such notable names marks a significant achievement for Ezzah and underscores the impact of her work.

This is Ezzah’s second recognition at the RCA. In 2025, she received 3rd Place for her book The Art of Waiting. Her progression from third place to champion within a year reflects her continued growth and dedication as a writer.

Beyond her role as an educator, Ezzah is also a documentary filmmaker and author whose work often explores deeply personal yet universally relatable themes. Her writing continues to resonate with readers, offering reflection and comfort in meaningful ways.

Congratulations, Ms Ezzah!
