
On 12 February 2026, the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) successfully organised an online international sharing session titled “AI for Sustainable Energy Future.”. The session brought together experts and participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, and India to explore the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in renewable energy and smart city development.
The programme began with welcoming remarks by Mr. Brendan Hong Jun Zhi, followed by an opening address by Ts. Dr. Khoh Wee How, Deputy Dean (Academic and Innovative Learning).
The session featured Mr. Wiji Lestar from Universitas Duta Bangsa Surakarta, Indonesia, who delivered a presentation on Machine Learning and Explainable AI (XAI) in solar energy systems. This was followed by a joint presentation by Dr. N. Pushpalatha and Dr. D. Gunapriya from Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, India, who shared insights on the use of AI for smart energy management in smart cities.
The event was attended by more than 80 participants from the three countries, reflecting active regional academic engagement and collaboration. The session was organised under the leadership of Ms. Pa Pa Min as Head of the Organising Committee, with support from Dr. Chew Yee Jian, Mr. Poh Li Zhe, and Mr. Brendan Hong Jun Zhi.
The programme concluded with a closing address by Ts. Dr. Sumendra Yogarayan, Deputy Dean (Postgraduate and Collaborations), followed by closing remarks and a group photo session. The session further reflects FIST’s ongoing efforts to promote international academic collaboration and discussions on AI-driven solutions for sustainable energy development.
