On 26 January 2026, 41 students from the Bachelor of Electronics Engineering (Robotics & Automation) and Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering programmes at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) attended a virtual briefing on the James Dyson Award (JDA).
Organised by the faculty’s Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC), the session was led by Ms Azalea Shezdiana binti Badrulshah and Mr Zahirul Syafiq bin Ahmad from Dyson Malaysia. The speakers shared their professional experiences in engineering, design, and innovation, and provided guidance on how to prepare strong and effective entries for the international design competition.
The James Dyson Award encourages design engineering students to tackle real-world problems through creativity and technical skill. The national winner receives RM27,800, and registration for JDA 2026 opens on 11 March 2026.
During the session, students learned what makes a compelling project, from concept development to presentation, and gained practical insights from the speakers’ experience in product development and design. The briefing inspired participants to explore new ideas, apply their skills, and consider entering the competition to showcase their innovation on an international stage.
