The Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) celebrates the success of its Final Year Project film, Spelling Test (Peperiksaan), which won the Malaysian Student Film Award at the SeaShorts Film Festival 2025, held in Kuala Lumpur from 16–19 October.

Directed by Wong Tuck Hon and produced under From Home Pictures, the film stood out among strong entries from film schools across the country, marking another milestone for MMU’s emerging storytellers on the regional stage.

Spelling Test (Peperiksaan) tells a quiet, emotionally resonant story of a young boy navigating the pressures of school and family expectations during a spelling competition. Through subtle performances and intimate cinematography, the film explores childhood anxieties and the tender bonds between parent and child.

The award highlights FCA’s dedication to nurturing creative, reflective, and socially aware filmmakers. Earlier this year, six FCA student films were selected for SeaShorts 2025, reflecting the faculty’s growing influence in Southeast Asia’s short-film scene.

Now in its ninth edition, the SeaShorts Film Festival continues to be a key platform for emerging filmmakers in the region. The 2025 festival, themed Through the Cracks, showcased Southeast Asian voices exploring personal, social, and cultural narratives through the short-film form.

Well done!
