A team of students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) – Wong Shin Chen, Kee Qiao Xin, Wong Yu Jun, and Lo Yong Qin – successfully made it into the Top 10 Grand Finalists at the inaugural National AI Competition 2025, held in July.

The competition, co-organised by Sunway University and Hyperbyte AI, featured three main tracks: AI Generated Art, AI Innovation, and AI Technical. Guided by their mentor, Mr. Vincent Chan, the team presented their project titled Seismo AI under AI Innovation category, which focused on fast, simple, and non-invasive detection of wall defects using sound analysis powered by AI.

Their project stood out among over 600 submissions from more than 2,500 secondary and pre-university students across the country. The grand finale took place at Sunway University, and was graced by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, who applauded the role of young talents in advancing Malaysia’s AI landscape.

Although Seismo AI didn’t take home the top prize, the team’s achievement is a proud moment for MMU. It also shows how business students can contribute valuable insights and perspectives in tech-driven competitions.

Well done!
