On 25 September 2026, MMU strengthened its long-standing industry-academia collaboration with the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held in KL Convention Centre.

The pact was signed by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President and Chief Executive Officer of MMU, and Ir. Yau Chau Fong, President of IEM, marking a continued commitment by both institutions to strengthen collaboration in engineering education, professional development and industry engagement.

The collaboration will create more opportunities for MMU students and staff through joint seminars, research and academic activities especially with the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE), access to IEM’s professional network, and support for MMU’s iCadet activities.

Under the MoU, MMU will provide campus facilities, support student recruitment and promote professional membership, while IEM will contribute industry expertise, educational resources and support for engineering-related activities at MMU. Both institutions will also work together in organising and approving relevant research and academic activities.

The partnership is expected to provide MMU students with greater exposure to the engineering profession, industry practices and the wider professional community, while further strengthening the University’s engagement with the engineering industry.

Also present at the ceremony were Prof. Ts. Dr. Lau Siong Hoe, Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement and Touchpoint (MEET), Ms. Azimah Abdul Aziz, Director of Government Liaison and Industry Engagement (GLIE), Prof. Ir. Dr. Hezerul Abdul Karim,  Deputy Dean of FAIE as well as other MMU representatives.
