MMU Highlights Industry-Connected Approach to STEM Education at Malaysia STEM Leadership Summit 2026

Multimedia University (MMU) shared its perspective on the evolving landscape of STEM education at the Malaysia STEM Leadership Summit 2026, with Prof. Dr. Ooi Chee Pun, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE), taking part as a panellist in the session “Transforming STEM Education through Technology” on 14 September 2026 at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

During the session, Prof. Ooi highlighted that advancing STEM education is not simply about expecting every educator to master emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and data science. Instead, he emphasised the importance of creating an ecosystem that gives educators and students access to technology, resources, communities of practice and strong university-industry partnerships.

He shared MMU’s Bespoke Industry Studio as an example of how industry can be brought directly into the learning environment. Through the initiative, industry partners bring real products, technologies and solutions into the classroom, where students are challenged to explore new use cases, propose feature enhancements and develop solutions to real-world problems.

The industry perspective was also shared by TM Chief Corporate Officer Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, who highlighted the role of industry in creating opportunities for STEM talent to develop, contribute and grow in an increasingly digital economy.

The discussion reflects MMU’s 3I philosophy of Inquiry, Inspire and Innovate, where students are encouraged to ask questions, draw inspiration from real-world challenges and turn their ideas into solutions. Through its industry-connected approach to learning, MMU continues to provide students with opportunities to engage with emerging technologies and apply what they learn to real-world challenges.
