The Faculty of Business (FOB) recently organised the MICPA-MMU Inter School Accounting Quiz (MISAQ 2026), bringing together secondary school students from across Malaysia to develop their interest in accounting, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The competition began with an online Qualifying Round, which attracted 816 students comprising 272 teams from 66 schools across 11 states. Participants tested their knowledge of accounting concepts while applying what they had learned in the classroom in a challenging and engaging competitive environment.
Following the Qualifying Round, six finalist teams advanced to the Final Round at MMU, where they demonstrated impressive knowledge, quick thinking, teamwork and determination in tackling a series of challenging questions. The Final Round was graced by Yang Berhormat Tuan Adam Adli bin Abd Halim, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, alongside Professor Dr. Hishamuddin bin Ismail, Campus Director, MMU Melaka Campus; Dr. Siti Zakiah binti Melatu Samsi, FOB Dean; deputy deans, lecturers, student committees, participating schools, teachers, parents and supporters. The competition was also supported by the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) as the event partner, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) as the regulatory body for the accountancy profession in Malaysia, and Lee & Lim as the valued sponsor.
As a result, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Jambul, Pulau Pinang emerged as the champion and received a cash prize of RM1,000, while SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman, Pulau Pinang secured first runner-up with RM700 and SMK Mutiara Rini, Johor was named second runner-up with RM500. SMK St. Mary, Kuala Lumpur, SMJK Yok Bin, Melaka and Kolej Vokasional Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang shared the third runner-up position, with each team receiving RM200. The competition concluded with a closing and award-giving ceremony that recognised the achievements of the finalists and celebrated the dedication and efforts of all participants.
Beyond the competition, MISAQ 2026 provided students with a valuable opportunity to build confidence, resilience, analytical thinking and teamwork while gaining a deeper appreciation of accounting and its role in business and society. The event concluded on a positive note, inspiring young learners to explore the field of accounting and pursue their future aspirations with greater confidence.
