On 8 August 2026, two academic staff members, Dr. Nur Iylia Syafiqah Binti Abdul Malik and Dr. Peong Kwee Kim from the Faculty of Business (FOB), participated in the RHB-Bursa Malaysia Retail Corporate Day 2026 at DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka. The event served as a platform for the faculty members to engage directly with financial practitioners, gain a closer understanding of current market developments and identify insights that can enrich financial education at MMU.
More than 350 investors, corporate representatives, market practitioners, academicians and business leaders took part in the event, which also featured a keynote address by the Chief Minister of Melaka, YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf bin Yusoh. The programme covered the 2026 economic outlook, developments in the financial and capital markets, investment strategies and market-based financial solutions, providing the FOB representatives with first-hand perspectives from industry practitioners.
Discussions on areas such as Share Margin Financing were particularly relevant to investment-related subjects, offering practical examples that can complement concepts taught in the classroom. Exposure to such discussions enables lecturers to keep their subject knowledge current while drawing on real-world developments to make academic learning more relevant and meaningful for students. The event also provided an opportunity to strengthen professional and alumni connections, with the FOB representatives reconnecting with MMU alumnus Mr. Surajkartik Girish Patel, who currently serves as Executive, Dealings, Retail Broking at RHB Investment Bank Berhad. His career progression in the financial services industry provided an encouraging example of an MMU graduate contributing to the sector and highlighted the value of maintaining relationships with alumni who are actively engaged in professional practice.
Adding to the significance of the engagement, Mr. Zulfa Datuk Idris, Head of Supervisory Branch Melaka, expressed his appreciation to the MMU representatives for their support and welcomed the possibility of future collaboration. The engagement demonstrates how industry participation can extend beyond professional networking, creating opportunities for academic staff to stay connected with current practices while exploring avenues for continued engagement with the financial sector. Through these connections, the University continues to strengthen the relevance of its financial education and its links with the industry in which its graduates will build their careers.
