Engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) recently participated in an industrial visit to Central Cables Bhd, organised by the faculty’s Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC) to bridge classroom learning with real industrial practice.

The programme began with a sharing session on the company’s background, work culture, and safety practices. With over 50 years of experience in the industry, the company specialises in manufacturing power cables, control wires, and house wiring products for residential, commercial, and industrial use. The briefing was delivered by Mr Zakrysham Bin Zainal Bahry, Chief Executive Officer of Central Cables Bhd, together with Mr Syed Ahmad bin Syed Sheikh, Senior Executive (Maintenance and Improvement).

Students then proceeded to a guided walk through the production floor, where they were split into small groups and accompanied by engineers. Throughout the tour, they observed how raw materials such as copper and aluminium are processed and transformed into finished cable products. The process covered several stages, including wire drawing, stranding, insulation, marking, and the final sheathing works.

Seeing the production line in operation gave students a clearer picture of how engineering knowledge is applied in real industrial settings. It also helped them understand the scale, precision, and discipline involved in manufacturing environments. Overall, the visit offered students valuable exposure to real industrial operations and how engineering knowledge is applied on the ground.
