FET Hosts Industrial Talk on Success Factors in Sustainable Electric Vehicle Design

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) organised an insightful industrial talk titled “Factors to Succeed in Sustainable Product Design: A Case Study on Electric Cars” on 18 September 2024 at the Melaka campus. The session, conducted by Ir. Dr. Oh Seong Por, Director of Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia, attracted 37 attendees, including academics and students, providing an engaging platform for discussions on sustainable innovation in the electric vehicle industry.

During the session, Dr. Oh shared his extensive knowledge and over 34 years of industrial experience in factory setups, production management, and sustainable product innovation. His presentation highlighted key factors for success in sustainable product design, such as government policy, financial support, continuous technological innovation, and creative business strategies. These elements are vital in the electric car industry, which is emerging as a market leader in eco-friendly technology and steadily replacing conventional fossil fuel vehicles.

Dr. Oh also provided real-world insights and case studies on how these factors are being adopted in the electric car industry. The attendees were highly engaged, asking questions during the Q&A session, sparking meaningful discussions about the future of sustainable product design and emerging trends in electric vehicle technology. This industrial talk aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, offering participants a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge from a seasoned expert. All in all, the attendees gained valuable insights and knowledge from this talk session, enriching their understanding and broadening their perspectives.
