Two teams from Multimedia University (MMU) namely MMU Undergraduate Darlings and Obliterators qualified themselves as finalists in the #Bangkit Challenge 2021, recently. Mentored by Mr. Vincent Chan from the Faculty of Business (FOB, they were also under the umbrella of The Changemaker Academy, which is an initiative by Mr. Vincent in creating a movement to encourage students to explore and equip themselves with essential skills as well as to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

#Bangkit is a brand-new initiative by Sunway University that aims to encourage Malaysian youth to voice out their concerns on trending issues in Malaysia and to cultivate a heightened awareness of social issues related to “Education”. The participating teams were given a problem statement by relevant non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for them to pitch the solutions to the judges for 20 minutes. Among participants were students from Xiamen University, Monash University, Sunway University, Brickfields Asia College, and other local varsities. MMU Undergraduate Darlings team comprises Darren Bong, Faith Ng Sze Huey, Ain Farahana Mazdin from the Faculty of Law (FOL), and Abbhiramie Gunanthiran from FOB to develop a solution for the NGO called MyReaders, in an effort to help illiterate B40 children to read and write without the accessibility to gadgets and networks.

Meanwhile, Obliterators team comprises Raisa Alam from the Faculty of Management (FOM) and Ashwini Ganesan from BAC received their mission related to the IT sector by Exabytes. The team was responsible to highlight ways to promote digital knowledge education in relevant systems from different perspectives of education stakeholders. It is hoped that the participants gained a deeper insight on related issues and engaged in discussions as well as broaden their networking circle.
