The Faculty of Business (FOB) recently hosted their second International Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition (IYSEC) 2019 with their strategic partner, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and supported by Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) in Main Hall, Melaka recently.

A total of 155 teams from international and local universities participated in the Preliminary Round which ended on 14 August 2019. The top 20 teams, who were also the gold award winners pitched their social enterprise ideas in the Final Round to a panel of judges from the industry. The finalist teams consist of participants from Birla Global University, India, Islamic University of Riau, Indonesia, Universitas Mercu Buana, Indonesia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), KDU Penang University College and Multimedia University.

This competition aims to bring together students from local and foreign universities to pitch their social enterprise ideas, and at the same time, to create a platform for students to build a network across universities, industry and professional bodies. In addition, IYSEC 2019 also aims to educate and create awareness on social entrepreneurship among students and the community.

Also present was the representative from ICAEW, Mr. Andrew Yew, Student Recruitment and Marketing Executive of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He delivered a prolific talk, entitled “Our Planet, Our Business” to all participants.

Despite the stiff competition, Islamic University of Riau, Indonesia emerged as the champion of IYSEC 2019. First runner-up went to KDU Penang University College, followed by Multimedia University in the second runner-up placing. The champion brought home a cash prize of RM1,000 and certificate of achievement for each member of the team.
