On 12 March 2018, Multimedia University (MMU) and Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the collaborations in agropreneurship research and training. Pursuant to this, MARDI has organised various initiatives to encourage agricultural entrepreneurship (agropreneurship) among youths in Malaysia. Thus, the MoU aims to synergise the expertise from both MMU and MARDI to not only create more innovative initiatives to spur agropreneurship among youths in Malaysia, but also to evaluate the effectiveness of those initiatives.
The MoU is a boost to various collaboration activities that started in 2017 by the Faculty of Management (FOM) team led by Mr. Mohd Fairuz bin Abd Rahim, Associate Professor Dr. Chew Kok Wai, and Dr. Ong Jeen Wei, with collaborators from MARDI, led by Dr. Ahmad Safuan bin Bujang, Deputy Director, MARDI Young Agropreneur Program. In 2017, the team secured one MMU Mini Fund grant and one Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) grant, with a total amount close to RM70,000 to study the agropreneurship intention of participants and the effectiveness of MARDI’s agropreneurship training programmes.
The MoU was signed by Professor Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, President of MMU, and Datuk Dr. Mohamad Roff bin Mohd Noor, Director General of MARDI. The auspicious ceremony was witnessed by Professor Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar bin Abdul Rashid, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of MMU, and Dr. Rozhan bin Abu Dardak, Deputy Director General of MARDI.
