FET Alumnus Shares Valuable Pieces of Advice for Aspiring Engineers
Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) held its 6th Alumni Talk Series with Ms. Alice Leong Mei Ping, a Mechanical Engineering alumnus from the class of 2016 in Melaka campus recently. Starting her career in the fire protection and firefighting field upon graduation, Ms. Alice shared how she had to adapt quickly to the workforce as a young project engineer that handles engineering design, installation and commissioning projects. She hopes her juniors will adopt the correct mindset when they go through the same transition upon commencement of their first job
Ms. Alice imparted three valuable pieces of advice to her audience: to gain exposure and increased opportunity through interviews, to do financial planning, and to aim for work-life balance and be self-motivated along the journey. She ended the session by unravelling the meaning behind the catchy title of her talk, “Your Broken Pencil” – When we face challenges in work or life, we may end up dull or broken; but we have to keep sharpening our skills to move forward.
The 6th FET Alumni Talk Series talk was organised by FET Alumni Committee members: Mr. Low Kean Ong, Ms. Lim Sin Ting, Mr. Mohamed Syafiq Nor Hisham, Ms. Tan Yee Mun and Mr. Lee Gin Chong as a platform for final year students to prepare their next step as aspiring engineers.
