ABOUT THE FACULTY

Previously known as the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT), the Faculty was rebranded in 2012 to become the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI).
FIT initially offered four Bachelor of IT programmes; Information Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Multimedia Systems, and Multimedia Technology Management. In 2001, it added two niche programmes that have a multimedia dimension to them: Bachelor of Multimedia in Software and Animation, and Bachelor of Multimedia in Software Engineering and Games Design.
In 2008, FIT initiated a rationalisation process to support the University’s R&D Roadmap. The Faculty started offering postgraduate programmes: Masters of IT in Multimedia Computing and Masters of Computer Science in Software Engineering and Software Architecture. The Masters of IT in Multimedia Computing was a conversion programme offered to non-IT degree holders, while Masters of Computer Science was an advanced extension of the established Software Engineering undergraduate degree programme.
In 2012, the Faculty went on another transformation initiative, changing its name to the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) to better reflect the position of the Faculty as a leader in teaching, learning, and research in diverse areas of computer and information science and computer and information technology. FCI consolidated its programmes, offering a more technically specialised Bachelor of Computer Science in areas of Software Engineering, Game Development, and Data Science. These are enhancements to the already existing Bachelor of Computer Science. The move is to focus more on the fundamental of computer science and at the same time, embrace the latest computing and information technology developments by offering specialised tracks in computing.
As of current, the Faculty has added more offering to its established programmes, with Cybersecurity track in its Bachelor of Computer Science, together with strengthening its programmes of Bachelor of Information Technology, Diploma in Information Technology, and Master in Computer Science.
