Some 550 students from 19 local higher learning institutions participated in the International Students Sports Carnival 2017 (ISSC 2017) organised by the MMU on 26 September 2017.
The two-day sports carnival of saw students from various countries converge as they were competing in seven games.
MMU president, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq pointed out that the carnival served as an enabler to inculcate healthy and productive integration amongst international students from various ethnics and nationalities attending the public and private higher learning institutions in Malaysia.
This is very important because sports has been proven to be a very effective ‘social glue’ which is the enabler, contributing ‘bonding’ capital by increasing social connectedness and a sense of belonging.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education deputy minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching who was present for the opening ceremony at MMU Cyberjaya said that the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) hoped to produce graduates who excel beyond academic pursuits in sports and extra-curricular activities.
At the end of the carnival, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) was crowned as champion for ISSC 2017, while Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) secured the second place followed by USCI in the third place.
