Throughout the month of August, students from the Faculty of Applied Communication (FAC) could be seen at public places such as KL Sentral and Bukit Jalil selling Malaysian flags and collecting donations from the public. The fund raising campaign called “Flag Day” was a collaboration with The Salvation Army, and is a tradition for the charitable organisation. Public contributions to The Salvation Army through this campaign would enable The Salvation Army to continue their year-round efforts at helping those who would otherwise be forgotten.
The Public Relations Coordinator of The Salvation Army, Mr. Jheevan Patrick, expressed his appreciation to the Dean of FAC, Associate Professor Dr Madhubala Bavaharji at FAC office recently. He looks forward to future collaborations with the faculty.
In addition to collecting much needed funds for the needy, the “Flag Day” campaign helps instil the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians. “I guess every Malaysian, regardless of religion or race, can raise a flag to being Malaysian. That’s something that unites us,” quipped Chong Zhi Ying, the student who led the collaboration. “We also get to practice communicating with people from every background in a real life setting.”
