Throughout the month of August 2017, seven students from Faculty of Applied Communication (FAC), led by Chong Zhi Ying, had collaborated with The Salvation Army, the non-profit organisation, in a fund raising campaign of ‘The Flag Day’. Public contributions through this campaign would enable this non-profit organisation to continue their year-round efforts at helping those who would otherwise be forgotten.
During the campaign, the student volunteers were stationed at several public places such as KL Sentral, Bukit Jalil and MMU Cyberjaya campus to sell Malaysia flags and collect donation from the public. Mr Jheevan Patrick, the Public Relation Coordinator of The Salvation Army expressed his appreciation to the Dean of FAC, Assoc. Prof. Dr Madhubala Bavaharji for the students participation.
Besides helping the needed people, the “Flag Day” campaign also helps to instil the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians as raising a flag is a good reminder to embody the spirit of nationalism. In addition, the students too have learned the skills involved in communicating with the public in a real life setting.
Well done to the students!
