Description: Congratulations to the Institute for Electrical and Electronics (IEEE) Multimedia University (MMU) Student Branch for winning the gold award for the Darrel Chong Student Activity Award (2022) through Project E.D.Di.E (Everyone Deserves Digital Education), recently. The award is given by IEEE Student Activities Committee (SAC). MMU is also the only student branch from Malaysia that has been listed as one of the award winners.

The purpose of the Darrel Chong Student Activity Award is to serve as a recognition to change the mindset of the student groups, from being number-driven to becoming value-driven, and to acknowledge exemplary student activities around the world. The goal is to improve the quality of activities and to foster knowledge sharing among students.

Project E.D.Di.E is an initiative by IEEE MMU SB that aims to collect old or unused electronic devices such as laptops, desktops, or tablets that are still in working condition so that they may distribute to students in need of such devices. The devices were collected across multiple states in Malaysia such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. This was made possible through the cooperation of multiple officers and volunteers who live in different states across Malaysia. The collected devices were also examined to ensure that it is in working condition before donating them to the aforementioned students. Besides, Project E.D.Di.E also aims to provide STEM-based training and programs as well as investigate connectivity issues faced by students in rural areas.

Some of the accomplishments made by Project E.D.Di.E as of now was successfully acquiring a total of 29 donors who collectively donated 6 laptops, 3 tablets as well as RM 250 worth of mobile credits. IEEE MMU SB also hosted a Bahasa Malaysia seminar for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Perdana Putra as part of an initiative for Project E.D.Di.E. Earlier this year, the project has also been awarded the 2021 Activity Innovation Award by IEEE Malaysia Section during the IEEE Malaysia Section Annual General Meeting.

Well done!
