The longstanding collaboration between Multimedia University (MMU), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) continued with the successful organisation of the 11th Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass, bringing together regulators, policymakers, industry professionals, academics, and participants from Malaysia and abroad.

The programme was officiated by YB Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Sarawak, on 27 July 2026 at the Pullman Kuching Hotel, Sarawak. The opening ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU; Mr. Abdul Karim Fakir Ali, Managing Director of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Mr. Kevin Henry, Head of Strategic Engagement, APAC, GSMA; as well as representatives from the three organising institutions.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham said the Masterclass has become an important platform for strengthening collaboration among academia, government, and industry in addressing the evolving telecommunications and digital landscape. He noted that as technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and next-generation mobile networks continue to reshape the digital economy, effective and forward-looking regulation is essential to support innovation while protecting the interests of society.

He also highlighted that since its introduction in 2015, the CTPR Masterclass has grown into a respected regional platform for professional development in telecommunications policy and regulation. The continued collaboration between MMU, MCMC, and GSMA reflects a shared commitment to building regulatory expertise, encouraging knowledge exchange, and preparing leaders to respond to emerging challenges in the communications sector.

Coordinated by CNERGY, the programme provided participants with valuable insights from industry experts on key issues in telecommunications policy, digital governance, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Beyond the technical discussions, the Masterclass also offered meaningful opportunities for networking and the exchange of ideas, reinforcing its role as a platform for fostering international collaboration and shaping a resilient, future-ready digital ecosystem.

The inaugural MMU Traditional Games Fiesta 2026 was officially launched by the President of MMU, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd. Su’ud, as part of the Human Capital Management (HCM) staff engagement initiative. In his address, the President described the fiesta as a meaningful platform that promotes stronger bonds among staff while encouraging a healthy work-life balance. He highlighted that one of the main objectives of introducing the Traditional Games Fiesta is to provide more Hall members with the opportunity to represent and contribute to their respective Halls. While not everyone may have the chance to compete in the MMU Sports Fiesta, the traditional games offer another avenue for staff to participate, strengthen teamwork, and take pride in representing their Hall.

Featuring six traditional games—Congkak, Batu Seremban, Ceper, Dam Haji, Galah Panjang, and Baling Selipar—the fiesta attracted enthusiastic participation, with more than 50 staff members from each of the six Halls taking part in the two-day competition. The event fostered teamwork, camaraderie, and friendly rivalry while celebrating Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage through traditional games.

Beyond the games, the initiative provided staff members with an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues in a relaxed and engaging setting while reinforcing MMU’s commitment to staff well-being, unity, and an inclusive campus culture. The closing ceremony and prize-giving ceremony will be held on 3 August 2026, marking the conclusion of the inaugural MMU Traditional Games Fiesta.

MMU has strengthened its commitment to humanitarian engineering and sustainable development with the establishment of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Malaysia Student Chapter, marking a significant milestone in the University’s efforts to empower students to develop engineering solutions that create meaningful impact for communities.

The establishment of the chapter formalises MMU’s partnership with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Malaysia and builds upon the strong foundation laid by the University’s Multimedia University Smart Technology Team (MUST), the Engineering Society’s outreach team. Since 2022, MUST has actively championed engineering-based humanitarian initiatives by designing, teaching, and deploying Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for schools and local communities across the Klang Valley.

By joining the internationally recognised EWB network, the new student chapter expands MMU students’ opportunities to participate in humanitarian engineering projects, collaborate with industry and community partners, and apply their technical knowledge to address real-world challenges. The initiative also reinforces the University’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible engineers who contribute to sustainable development through innovation.

Leading the chapter is Mr. Muhammad Izzat bin Muhammad Nazarudin, a student from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering (FAIE), who has been appointed as its inaugural President. He is supported by a committee of 15 FAIE students responsible for spearheading the chapter’s activities and strategic direction. The chapter has also attracted 30 founding student members, reflecting growing enthusiasm among students to contribute their engineering expertise towards community development.

As its first major initiatives, the chapter will implement two flagship projects—IoT Smart Farming and Solar-Based Systems—to promote sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and responsible resource management. These projects align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), while providing students with valuable opportunities to translate classroom knowledge into practical solutions that benefit society.

The establishment of the EWB Malaysia Student Chapter represents another significant step in MMU’s mission to cultivate future-ready engineers who combine technical excellence with social responsibility. Through this collaboration, the University continues to strengthen its role in advancing innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, while inspiring students to become agents of positive change both locally and beyond.

Well done!

The programme concluded with a lunch gathering made possible through the generous support of sponsors, providing an opportunity for the children and volunteers to interact in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

More importantly, the visit marked the beginning of a longer-term initiative. During discussions with the home management, the team learned that three Orang Asli from rural communities currently residing at Fatima Home Melaka require additional academic support. In response, the volunteers have committed to providing tutoring and educational guidance to help strengthen the children’s learning and development.

While the day’s activities focused on knowledge sharing through fun and engaging learning experiences, the programme has also laid the foundation for a sustained partnership with Fatima Home Melaka. By extending support beyond the initial visit, the initiative demonstrates how knowledge transfer can translate into meaningful action that benefits the community, particularly in creating greater access to educational opportunities for children who need them most.

Well done!

On 22 July 2026, the Faculty of Business (FOB) organised a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) titled “Startup Ready: Essential Skills for Aspiring Entrepreneurs” at Sekolah Menengah Sains Datuk Setia Abdul Ghani Ali (SAGA), Alor Gajah, Melaka. The initiative reflects MMU’s commitment to community engagement by equipping secondary school students with practical entrepreneurial knowledge and inspiring them to explore innovation and entrepreneurship as future career pathways.

Designed to nurture an entrepreneurial mindset from an early age, the programme introduced students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship while strengthening essential 21st-century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and financial literacy. Through an engaging blend of group discussions, brainstorming sessions, educational games, business simulations and student presentations, participants experienced entrepreneurship in a practical, collaborative and enjoyable learning environment.

A key highlight of the programme was its experiential learning approach, where MMU academics worked directly with students to translate classroom concepts into real-world business applications. By encouraging participants to generate ideas, develop business solutions and present their concepts with confidence, the programme fostered innovation, ethical decision-making and entrepreneurial thinking among the students.

Beyond enriching the students’ learning experience, the programme strengthened the partnership between MMU and SAGA while reaffirming the University’s commitment to sharing knowledge with the wider community. Through initiatives such as this, MMU continues to empower young minds with the skills, confidence and entrepreneurial mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly dynamic and innovation-driven world.

The programme was led by Ms. Haniza Hashim and supported by Ms. Anushia A/P Chelvarayan, Ms. Shadia Suhaimi, Ms. Hazlaili Hashim, Ms. Siti Nurul Huda Mohd, Dr. Yeo Sook Fern and Ms. Nur Baiti Shafee. The event was also attended by SAGA Principal, Mr. Shafian Bin Ishak, Senior Assistant of Administration, Ms. Zulindawati, and teacher, Mr. Amin Bin Zainudin, whose support underscored the strong collaboration between MMU and SAGA in advancing entrepreneurship education and community development.
