MMU and the Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) formalised a strategic collaboration through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 8 May 2026 at the Persada Permata Dunia, Melaka campus.

The MoU was signed by MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, and Datuk Zamri Misman, Director General of the Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department. The ceremony was witnessed by YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

The event also marked the official launch of the MMU Legal Aid Clinic, known as the MULA Clinic, a key initiative aimed at strengthening access to legal services for the community by the Minister. The clinic seeks to provide free legal aid to those in need, particularly individuals from lower-income groups, while also enhancing public awareness of legal rights and responsibilities. In addition, this initiative also offers MMU law students valuable opportunities to develop practical legal skills through real-world exposure.

In her address, Dato’ Sri Azalina highlighted MMU’s role beyond academic excellence, underscoring its contribution to the formation of values, ethics and social responsibility within society. She emphasised the importance of complementing theoretical education with practical exposure so that students can better understand societal challenges and their role as agents of change within the legal system. The establishment of the MULA Clinic was described as a meaningful step towards bridging the gap between law and society, ensuring that justice remains inclusive and accessible to all.

The MULA Clinic also plays a significant role in supporting students’ academic and professional development. Through involvement in legal aid activities, students are able to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings while strengthening essential skills such as communication, analysis and problem-solving. The clinic further fosters important professional values, including empathy, integrity and social responsibility.

Prof. Mazliham described the MULA Clinic as an effective platform for students to serve the community while enriching their learning experience. He noted that direct engagement in legal aid and community service activities not only enhances practical competencies but also cultivates a strong sense of social responsibility among future legal practitioners. He added that this experiential learning approach contributes to academic excellence and enhances graduate employability, while positioning the clinic as a strategic bridge between MMU and the wider community, particularly in supporting underprivileged groups and those with limited awareness of their legal rights.

In line with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the congress reinforces its commitment to responsible innovation and inclusive knowledge sharing.

The event began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer of TMR&D, followed by the official opening ceremony officiated by MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud. In his address, he emphasised the importance of advancing research and innovation in response to the rapidly evolving digital landscape, driven by artificial intelligence, data analytics, and emerging technologies. Since its inception in 2021, DIFCON has grown into a significant academic platform, now in its sixth edition, shaping how innovations are explored, shared, and applied for the benefit of society.

As MMU’s flagship academic congress, DIFCON 2026 brings together six international conferences under one umbrella: the International Conference on Computing, Information Technology, and Intelligent Computing (CITIC 2026), International Conference of Creative Multimedia (ICCM 2026), International Conference on Communication, Language, Education, and Social Sciences (CLESS 2026), International Conference on Law and Digitalisation (ICLD 2026), International Conference on Technology and Innovation Management (ICTIM 2026), and the Multimedia University Engineering Conference (MECON 2026). This year, the congress received an impressive 907 paper submissions, reflecting its growing global recognition as a platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue and discovery.

On the first day of the congress, participants were honoured with keynote addresses by distinguished Malaysian researchers, Professor Ir. Dr. Abd. Rahim Abu Talib from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Professor Ir. Dr. Sulaiman Wadi Harun from the University of Malaya (UM). The congress is further strengthened by collaborations with seven international co-organising institutions, alongside the support of sponsors and contributors, making DIFCON 2026 a truly global platform for knowledge exchange and innovation.

The Faculty of Business (FOB) welcomed back its alumna, Dr. Goh Hui Lee, for an Inspirational Sharing Session held on 5 May 2026 at the Melaka campus.

Returning to her alma mater, Dr. Goh shared her journey of building multiple businesses from the ground up, offering students a first-hand perspective on the realities of entrepreneurship. Her sharing highlighted the importance of strategic thinking, resilience, and a strong marketing mindset in navigating the business landscape.

She also emphasised the value of starting with limited resources and growing opportunities through careful planning, adaptability, and market awareness. Her real-world experiences effectively bridged academic concepts with practical application, helping students better understand how entrepreneurship and marketing principles are applied in practice.

The session saw active engagement from students, who explored topics such as branding, business development, and entrepreneurial challenges. Many participants found the session particularly impactful as it featured a successful MMU alumna sharing her professional journey.

Facilitated by Mr Tai Hen Toong, Dr Yeow Jian Ai & Mr Vincent Chan, the session aimed to strengthen the integration between academic learning and industry experience. Dr. Goh’s return to MMU also served as a meaningful reminder of the diverse career pathways available to graduates.

FOB extends its appreciation to the Centre for Alumni & Career Connect for their support in making the session a success. Overall, the session reinforced the value of alumni engagement in enriching student learning and inspiring future-ready graduates.
