Multimedia University (MMU) and Infineon Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. further strengthened their long-standing partnership through the celebration of Infineon Week 2026, reaffirming their shared commitment to nurturing future-ready talent and advancing industry-academia collaboration. The closing ceremony was held at the Melaka campus on 15 June 2026, with the presence of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU, and Mr. Eng Seng Meng, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., together with senior management representatives from both organisations.

In his remarks, the MMU President expressed appreciation for Infineon’s unwavering support over the years in making Infineon Week a meaningful platform for learning, engagement, and industry exposure. The collaboration between MMU and Infineon dates back to 2009 with the signing of their first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Since then, it has evolved into a strong industry-academia partnership that supports the development of an “industry in campus” ecosystem.

Among its notable outcomes is the Infineon Corner, launched in January 2024, which has become an active space for students from various disciplines to learn, collaborate, and exchange ideas. The University also takes pride in seeing many of its Permata Dunia alumni flourishing at Infineon, with several returning to campus during Infineon Week to share their experiences through programmes such as the Career Talk and Alumni Industrial Forum.

Over the years, both parties have collaborated on a wide range of initiatives, including industrial sharing sessions, student internships, Industrial Advisory Panel appointments, technical training, curriculum embedment activities, industry-based Final Year Projects (FYPs), and technology showcases.

Another highlight of Infineon Week 2026 was the Innovative Project and Research Poster Competition, which featured 20 shortlisted Final Year Projects and 20 research posters from the engineering and information technology disciplines. As the event concluded, both MMU and Infineon reaffirmed their shared commitment to cultivating talent, driving innovation, and strengthening the link between academia and industry, paving the way for more impactful collaborations in the future.

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST), successfully organised the Alumni Industrial Forum 2026 in conjunction with Infineon Week 2026 in June 2026. The forum, themed “How AI and Engineering Are Shaping a Sustainable Semiconductor Industry”, brought together students, academics and industry practitioners to explore how emerging technologies are transforming the semiconductor landscape, with particular emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability in driving future growth.

The session featured four Multimedia University (MMU) alumni from Infineon Technologies Melaka: Mr. Tang Chee Chiang, Senior Director of Information Technology; Mr. Ronald Steven Dass, Director of Unit Process Engineering; Mr. Ong Kun Xiong, Senior Manager of Test Product Engineering; and Mr. Neo Shim Thai, Senior Engineer. Moderated by Dr. Sun Cha Chee, Senior Lecturer from FET, the forum offered participants valuable insights into current industry practices and the evolving demands of the semiconductor sector. Through the sharing of their professional experiences, the speakers highlighted how AI-driven solutions and decarbonisation initiatives are increasingly shaping decision-making and operational excellence while supporting environmental responsibility.

The two-hour discussion also underscored the importance of collaboration between engineering and information technology disciplines in addressing complex industrial challenges. Drawing from their own career journeys, the alumni encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, remain adaptable to change, and develop a growth mindset to stay relevant in an increasingly dynamic technological environment. Their experiences provided students with a clearer understanding of the opportunities and expectations within the semiconductor industry.

The forum concluded with a token of appreciation presented by Associate Professor Dr. Liew Kia Wai, Deputy Dean of Student Experience and Alumni, FET, in recognition of the alumni speakers’ valuable contributions. Participants later had the opportunity to engage with the speakers during a networking session, fostering meaningful connections and strengthening the ties between MMU and its alumni in the industry.

A group of 15 students from the Faculty of Business (FOB), accompanied by their lecturer Ms. Lim Su Yin, participated in a Personal Social Responsibility (PSR) project at the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre, Padang Kemunting, Melaka on 12 June 2026. The visit aimed to enhance students’ awareness of marine conservation and the importance of protecting endangered species.

The programme began with a warm welcome from the centre, followed by an informative introduction to sea turtles, particularly the Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), one of the most distinctive and endangered turtle species, recognised for its uniquely curved beak-like mouth resembling that of an eagle. The centre highlighted that Padang Kemunting beaches record some of the highest turtle landings in Melaka, making it a vital site for conservation efforts.

Students were then guided through several learning stations, including visits to the gallery, turtle pond, and hatchery. At the hatchery, they learned how turtle eggs are carefully protected in nests approximately 45cm deep and monitored over a hatching period of around 60 days. The facility is capable of accommodating between 300 to 600 nests during each spawning season. Once hatched, baby turtles are released into the sea, continuing a natural life cycle that often sees them returning to their birthplace as adults.

The centre also emphasised that Hawksbill Turtles are a protected species under the Fisheries Act 1985, where only licensed individuals are permitted to handle or relocate eggs, reflecting the strict conservation measures in place to safeguard their survival.

Through this hands-on experience, students gained valuable insights into environmental stewardship and the importance of preserving marine biodiversity. The visit not only deepened their understanding of conservation efforts but also encouraged a stronger sense of responsibility towards protecting endangered species for future generations.

The “Promoting and Practicing PAWE 3.0” Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) was conducted on 11 June 2026 in collaboration with PAWE Subang Jaya (Persatuan Aktiviti Warga Emas Subang Jaya), under the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia (JKM). The programme involved approximately 30 senior citizens and aimed to promote environmental awareness while encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices through interactive learning and knowledge-sharing activities.

The session was led by Project Leader Prof. Dr. Chong Chin Wei, and delivered by Dr. Kyra Law and Dr. Josh Si Chong En. The initiative was further supported by Ms. Fatin Zaida Zaidi and Ms. Nurul Atiah Mohd Zin, whose contributions helped ensure the smooth implementation of the programme. The collaboration reflects MMU’s continued efforts in community engagement through structured Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) initiatives.

During the session, participants were introduced to key environmental issues such as pollution, excessive waste generation, and unsustainable consumption practices. Particular emphasis was placed on the environmental impact of single-use plastics and the importance of reducing plastic dependency through responsible consumer behaviour. The presenters also shared practical examples of how small lifestyle changes can contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.

The session encouraged active participation, with senior citizens enthusiastically sharing their views and personal experiences related to environmental conservation. Many participants expressed their commitment to adopting greener lifestyles and reducing the use of single-use plastics in their daily routines. The programme reflects MMU’s ongoing commitment to fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable living practices across different segments of society through impactful KTP initiatives.
